Tips for Moving in the Rain

Hands up who has moved house in a torrential downpour.  IT. IS. NOT. FUN.

Slippery conditions can pose a safety hazard, and getting wet in cold temperatures is draining – both physically and mentally. Finally, rain can ruin boxes, damage your stuff and even lead to mold growth if you don’t unpack and dry your things immediately after moving.

The changing face of our first home

You know, we’re really lucky, here in Mudgee, that the dream of owning your first home can still be reality.

We don’t suffer the crippling prices that we’re seeing in the urban fringe, turning many young couples’ hope of achieving the “great Australian dream” into nothing more than clouds of fancy. In fact, first home buyers in Mudgee even have something that their city counterparts could only dream of: a choice of first home properties – all under $300K.

Here’s an interest article on the changing face of our first home, with comparisons from the 60s to today.

Hell no; we won’t go!

nailhouseWe thought this was so funny, we just had to share it!

Holdouts or nail houses (as they are known in China ) is a piece of property that did not become part of a larger real estate development because the owners have either refused to sell or have held out for more.

As a result, builders have to elaborately construct around it, often leaving behind an eyesore so awesome that it’s almost a sculpture!

Shipping Container Homes

Eco-friendly shelters made out of used shipping containers are big right now.

As the name suggests, these are made from shipping containers which are refitted for use as modular homes; modular meaning they can be tailored to fit the size requirements of their owners.

There is a surprisingly large number of designs, sizes and uses for container properties – houses, granny flats, shops, hotels, offices …and like Mudgee’s latest offering to coffee-lovers, cafes! Continue reading Shipping Container Homes

Safety Tips for Rural Living

Today I got a call from an elderly client, devastated and distraught because her house was broken into while she was undergoing a hernia operation in Sydney.
Not only was EVERYTHING stolen – tv’s, jewellery, tools, even the electric kettle – the thieving scumbags even stole the wooden panelling off her walls!  Apparently someone did see a car and caravan parked outside her place and had the sense of mind to report it, however the damage had already been done. Hopefully, the police will be able to catch the thieves before they manage to sell off most of her belongings.

While isolated rural living is peaceful, away from traffic and noise, isolation has its downside in that it’s exactly this which makes for perfect targets as they are often far away from watchful neighbours and police presence.

Because rural thieves are less concerned about being discovered in the act, they are more likely to clean out the house of everything marketable.

So today’s post is written with rural safety in mind. Continue reading Safety Tips for Rural Living
